Emergency dentist in Belgium: who to call at the weekend
By Covered Abroad Research Desk · Last verified July 2026
When it belongs in a hospital
Most dental emergencies are for a dentist: a broken tooth, a lost filling, an abscess, pain that will not settle. Facial injury after an accident, bleeding that will not stop, or swelling spreading across the face or neck is a hospital emergency instead, and the number is 112.
For everything short of that, Belgium's dental duty service is organised regionally.
Flanders: the 0903 line
The Verbond van Vlaamse Tandartsen, the Flemish dentists' association, runs the general dentist duty service across all of Flanders:
- Number: 0903 39969
- When: weekends, public holidays and bridge days only, between 9:00 and 18:00
- Call cost: €1.50 a minute
The association notes that Saturday between 9:00 and 9:20 is the call centre's peak. Extra operators are on, but the wait can still run longer, so avoid that window if you can.
Outside those hours the line does not operate. On a weekday evening, your own dentist's answering message is the first place to look.

The Brussels-Capital Region's official page of emergency and duty services lists dentists on duty on +32 (0)2 426 10 26, alongside the medical duty service and pharmacies on duty.
We did not find an official Wallonia-wide dental rota page to cite, so in Wallonia start with your own dentist's answering message, and call 112 for a genuine emergency.

What the duty dentist does, and what you pay
The Flemish association is explicit about the scope: the duty service exists to treat urgent pain or prevent an emergency getting worse, and it provides emergency treatment only.
It is equally explicit about money: the treatment is not free. During the organised duty service all dentists apply the current convention rates, as far as the treatments are in the official nomenclature. Follow-up work happens afterwards at your own dentist.
Ask for the price before treatment starts, and keep the paperwork you are given for your mutualité and for any private insurer.

Where private cover fits
On Regency's international health plans, emergency dental treatment (relief of pain only, on sound natural teeth) is not covered on Major Medical or Standard, is limited to inpatient treatment on Comprehensive, and is covered in full on Fully Comprehensive. Essential Health carries no dental benefit. Pre-existing conditions are excluded, and what applies is whatever your policy wording says. We are an insurance introducer, not an insurer, and nothing here is medical advice.
