The Barcelona T-usual, and which ticket you actually need

By Covered Abroad Research Desk · Last verified July 2026

The T-usual is Barcelona's monthly pass: unlimited journeys for 30 consecutive days from first use, from €22.80, and it even works at the airport metro stations. For lighter use, the T-casual gives 10 journeys from €13. Under-30s can travel unlimited for 90 days for €45.50, and children aged 4 to 16 travel free.

The T-usual

TMB, Barcelona's metropolitan transport operator, describes the T-usual as a personal, non-transferable ticket valid for an unlimited number of journeys during 30 consecutive days from its first validation. It is priced from €22.80.

One detail makes it particularly useful: it is valid at the Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 metro stations on line L9 Sud, which many of Barcelona's other multi-journey tickets exclude.

For residents commuting most days, it is the obvious choice — at Barcelona's single fare of €2.90, it pays for itself after eight journeys.

The other tickets worth knowing

TMB's range covers most situations:

  • T-casual — from €13: 10 journeys for one person, valid until the next fare change. Not valid at the airport stations.
  • Single ticket — €2.90: metro, bus and the Montjuïc funicular.
  • Airport ticket — €5.90: a metro journey including the Aeroport T1 and T2 stations.
  • T-familiar — from €11.50: 8 journeys in 30 days, shareable between several people.
  • T-grup — from €91: 70 journeys in 30 days for several people.
  • Hola Barcelona — from €12.50: unlimited travel for up to 5 days, with return metro trips to and from the airport included — ideal for a first visit or house-hunting trip.

Cheaper options for young people and families

Barcelona is generous with reduced fares:

  • T-jove — €45.50: unlimited journeys across all fare zones for 90 consecutive days, for under-30s. That is three months of unlimited travel for roughly the price of two months of the T-usual.
  • T-16 — free: unlimited journeys within its fare zone for children and young people aged 4 to 16.
  • T-usual for single-parent or large families — from €18.20 (general category) or €11.40 (special category).

For a family moving to Barcelona, those options can cut the transport budget sharply: children travel free and young adults pay a fraction of the full monthly price.
