The Navigo pass: how Paris public transport is paid for
By Covered Abroad Research Desk · Last verified July 2026
The 2026 Navigo prices
Île-de-France Mobilités, the region's transport authority, published its 2026 fares ahead of their 1 January 2026 start. The main passes, covering all zones:
- Navigo Mois (monthly) — €90.80 (reduced rate €45.40)
- Navigo Semaine (weekly) — €32.40 (reduced rate €16.20)
- Navigo Annuel (annual) — €998.80
- Navigo Senior (annual, all zones) — €544.80
- Imagine R (school and student annual pass) — €393.30, excluding the application fee
The monthly pass went up by €2 for 2026. IDFM says rises have been capped under a bouclier tarifaire — a price shield — at no more than inflation plus 1%, as since 2024.

Why the pass is cheaper than it looks
Two details make the Navigo better value than its headline price suggests.
Your employer pays at least half. IDFM notes that 50 to 100% of the monthly pass is covered by employers. If you take a job in the region, the €90.80 is not what leaves your pay packet.
It is heavily subsidised. According to IDFM, without the contributions of local authorities and businesses, the real price of the Navigo pass would be around €280 a month. Regional businesses with more than 11 employees fund 52.5% of the system.
And the network it buys keeps growing: IDFM points to around 1,400 new or renovated trains, metros, RER trains and trams since 2016, new tram lines, and metro extensions including line 14 to Orly airport.

Not everyone travels enough to make a monthly pass worthwhile. IDFM's 2026 single fares:
- Metro–train–RER ticket — €2.55 (reduced €1.30)
- Bus–tram ticket — €2.05 (reduced €1.05)
- with Navigo Liberté+, the pay-as-you-go option, those fall to €2.04 and €1.64
- Airport ticket — €14 (reduced €7)
For visitors, the Paris Visite pass costs €30.60 for one day or €78 for five days for an adult.
A simple rule of thumb: at €2.55 a journey, the monthly pass pays for itself at around 36 metro or RER journeys a month — fewer if your employer is paying half.
