The Crit'Air sticker: the only site to buy it from, and what it costs

By Covered Abroad Research Desk · Last verified July 2026

France's air-quality vignette is ordered from one place: certificat-air.gouv.fr, the official Crit'Air site. The price is €3.11 plus €0.74 postage — €3.85 per vehicle — and the site includes a simulator to check your vehicle's class from the registration certificate before ordering. Foreign-registered vehicles need one too when driving in a low-emission zone (ZFE), and unofficial resellers charge multiples of the real price.

One official site, one real price

The site says it itself: le site officiel de la vignette Crit'Air (certificat qualité de l'air) — and the price it charges is €3.11 plus €0.74 postage, €3.85 per vehicle. That number matters because the Crit'Air ecosystem is infested with lookalike resellers charging several times the official rate for the same sticker. Order from certificat-air.gouv.fr, enter the details from your certificat d'immatriculation (the old carte grise), and the vignette arrives by post.

Check your class before you order

The official site carries a Connaître mon classement simulator: enter the registration-certificate details and it returns the vehicle's Crit'Air class. The class — not the sticker itself — is what a ZFE (zone à faibles émissions) restricts on: each zone sets which classes may enter and when, and the site's ZFE section (Tout savoir sur les ZFE) is the official map of where the rules bite.

Foreign plates need one too

The vignette attaches to the vehicle, not the nationality: a foreign-registered car driving into a French ZFE needs its Crit'Air like any local — the official site processes foreign registrations. For a mover, the sequencing is the practical point: if you re-register the car in France (the carte grise process), the new registration needs its own vignette. Sibling reading: Spain's etiqueta system and Germany's Umweltplakette — three countries, three stickers, one windscreen.

Common questions

How much does the Crit'Air sticker cost?

€3.11 plus €0.74 postage — €3.85 per vehicle — from the official certificat-air.gouv.fr site. Anything priced far above that is a reseller markup for the same sticker.

Do I need Crit'Air for a foreign-registered car?

Yes, when driving in a ZFE — the official site takes foreign registrations. Order well before travel; it arrives by post.

Which Crit'Air class is my car?

Run the official simulator on certificat-air.gouv.fr with your registration-certificate details — class depends on fuel, Euro standard and first-registration date.

Where do the restrictions actually apply?

In each ZFE, on that zone's own schedule and class rules — the official site's ZFE section maps them. The sticker is national; the restrictions are local.
