By Covered Abroad Research Desk · Last verified July 2026

Austria's KlimaTicket Ö covers scheduled public transport across the entire country — rail, city transit, regional buses — on one annual pass. Official pricing: €1,400.00 for the Classic, €1,050.00 for those 25 or younger, 65 and older, and disabled travellers, plus a €140.00 family surcharge tier. Per klimaticket.at, it is valid for a whole year from a start date of the purchaser's choice and can be bought up to two months in advance.

The price table

Per klimaticket.at's ticket-types page: KlimaTicket Ö Classic €1,400.00; Youth/Senior/Special — those 25 or younger, or 65 and older, and disabled travellers — €1,050.00; family surcharge +€140.00. The validity rule from the same page: valid for a whole year from a date of the purchaser's choice, purchasable up to two months in advance. Railway companies sell seat-reservation and first-class add-on packages on top.

What it replaces

The KlimaTicket's pitch is arithmetic: one pass instead of a Vienna annual card plus ÖBB tickets plus regional buses. A Vienna–Linz commuter or anyone crossing Verkehrsverbund borders weekly clears the break-even quickly; a resident who never leaves one city may do better on the city pass alone. It's the maximal version of the pattern Germany runs with the Deutschlandticket — Austria's covers long-distance rail too, which is exactly why it costs more.

Buying it as a newcomer

The two rules worth planning around, both from the official site: the start date is yours to choose, and purchase opens two months ahead — so time it to your arrival, not the calendar year. Discount eligibility (age tiers, disability) follows the documented categories on the ticket-types page. For city-only life first, compare against the local annual card before committing a four-figure sum; the KlimaTicket earns its price the day your life stops fitting inside one city's network.
