The legal pension age
The Federal Pensions Service publishes three bands:
- Born before 1 January 1960: 65 years
- Born 1 January 1960 to 31 December 1963: 66 years
- Born on or after 1 January 1964: 67 years
The service also notes you can keep working once you are a pensioner.

Early pension: age plus career
Retiring before the legal age depends on two numbers at once. The service's French-language page lists the minimum age and career length:
- 60 with 44 career years
- 61 with 43 career years
- 62 with 43 career years
- 63 with 42 career years
For employees, a year counts toward that career condition if you worked at least one third of a full-time schedule (years of at least 104 days). Regularised study periods do not count toward the condition, though they do count toward the amount.
The service is direct about the cost: an early pension means a shorter career, so the amount will generally be lower.

Not sure the policy you have meets your destination's written rule? Run it through the policy check now, before you build the rest of the file around it.

EU-insured periods count toward qualifying under the coordination rules our multi-country pension guide explains. For a question about your own record, the service's pension line is +32 2 225 17 65.
If your retirement plan includes private health cover abroad, timing matters: Regency's international health plans accept new applicants up to age 70, and Essential Health up to 80. Pre-existing conditions are excluded, and cover is governed by the policy wording. We are an insurance introducer, not an insurer.
