The Touch 'n Go card, and getting around Kuala Lumpur

By Covered Abroad Research Desk · Last verified July 2026

The Touch 'n Go card is how most people pay for Kuala Lumpur's trains and buses — and for tolls and parking too. The enhanced NFC version costs RM10 and tops up from the Touch 'n Go eWallet. For unlimited travel, the Rapid Kembara pass is open to all users, at RM25 for a day or RM55 for three.

The card

Touch 'n Go describes its enhanced Touch 'n Go card as fully equipped with NFC technology, so you can reload it from the Touch 'n Go eWallet wherever you are. It covers train and bus fares, toll payments and parking, and you can check your balance in the eWallet.

Prasarana, which runs Rapid KL, prices the NFC Touch 'n Go card at RM10 in its pass FAQs.

Setting it up takes a minute: in the eWallet, tap the card icon, enter or scan the card details by holding it to the back of your phone, and reload. Touch 'n Go also asks you to register the card on its portal.

Which unlimited passes foreigners can buy

Rapid KL sells day passes loaded onto a Touch 'n Go card, and the eligibility differs — which matters if you're new to Malaysia:

  • Rapid Kembara Pass — open to all users. Unlimited rides on Rapid KL's LRT, MRT, monorail, BRT, buses and MRT feeder buses for 1 day (RM25) or 3 days (RM55), plus discounts at participating partners for seven days from activation. Bundled with a new NFC card and starting balance, it costs RM45 or RM75.
  • Rapid Kota Pass — for Malaysians only. The same unlimited rides for 1 day (RM10) or 3 days (RM25), but Prasarana states it is available to Malaysian citizens only.

Passes run on a day cycle, valid until 11:59pm. Prasarana's FAQ asks Rapid Kota users to keep at least RM5 on the card to enjoy unlimited rides.

Rapid KL also sells longer-term passes; check eligibility for the one you want at a Rapid KL customer service counter before buying.

Where to buy

Prasarana's pass FAQs list three ways to buy:

  • at Rapid KL customer service counters in LRT, MRT, monorail and BRT stations
  • at selected bus hubs, including Pasar Seni, Chow Kit, Sri Nilam, Puchong Utama, Pearl Point, Greenwood and Seksyen 2 Shah Alam
  • online through the Touch 'n Go eWallet, which needs an NFC Touch 'n Go card, an NFC-enabled phone and an eWallet account that has completed e-KYC verification

For most newcomers, the simplest start is an enhanced Touch 'n Go card bought at a station counter, topped up from the eWallet — it then covers trains, buses, tolls and parking in one place.
