The 8 collective leave days, and what they mean
On top of the national holidays, the government sets cuti bersama — collective leave days that bridge holidays into longer breaks. For 2027:
- 5 February (Fri) — Chinese New Year
- 9, 12 and 15 March (Tue, Fri, Mon) — Idul Fitri
- 25 March (Thu) — Good Friday
- 18 May (Tue) — Idul Adha
- 19 May (Wed) — Vesak
- 24 December (Fri) — Christmas
The ministry is explicit about who they apply to: collective leave is binding for civil servants (ASN), while for the private sector it is optional — it can be taken or not, depending on each company's policy. If you work for a private employer in Indonesia, check your company's calendar rather than assuming.

A few things stand out for anyone living in, or moving to, Indonesia:
- Lebaran is the big one. Idul Fitri falls on Wednesday and Thursday 10–11 March, and the collective leave days on 9, 12 and 15 March join it to the weekend either side. The ministry says collective leave is set with the mudik — the mass journey home for Lebaran — in mind.
- Nyepi comes early, on Monday 8 March, just before Lebaran.
- Isra Mikraj falls twice in 2027 — on 5 January and again on 26 December — because it follows the Islamic lunar calendar rather than the Gregorian one.
- Easter week brings Good Friday on 26 March, with a collective leave day on 25 March.
For the rest of 2026, the remaining dates are the collective leave day on 24 December and Christmas Day on 25 December.
