Public holidays in France in 2027, from the official fiche

By Covered Abroad Research Desk · Last verified July 2026

France's 2027 public holidays, per service-public.fr: New Year's Day (Friday 1 January), Easter Monday (29 March), Labour Day (Saturday 1 May), Ascension (Thursday 6 May), Victory Day (Saturday 8 May), Whit Monday (17 May), Bastille Day (Wednesday 14 July), Assumption (Sunday 15 August), All Saints (Monday 1 November), Armistice (Thursday 11 November) and Christmas (Saturday 25 December). Alsace-Moselle adds Good Friday (26 March) in certain communes.

The 2027 table

Service-public's fiche on jours fériés (F2405) already carries the 2027 dates:

  • Jour de l'An — Friday 1 January 2027
  • Lundi de Pâques — Monday 29 March 2027
  • Fête du Travail — Saturday 1 May 2027
  • Ascension — Thursday 6 May 2027
  • Victoire 1945 — Saturday 8 May 2027
  • Lundi de Pentecôte — Monday 17 May 2027
  • Fête nationale — Wednesday 14 July 2027
  • Assomption — Sunday 15 August 2027
  • Toussaint — Monday 1 November 2027
  • Armistice 1918 — Thursday 11 November 2027
  • Noël — Saturday 25 December 2027

Note the shape of the year: 1 May and 8 May fall on Saturdays and Assumption on a Sunday, while Ascension (Thursday 6 May) and Armistice (Thursday 11 November) set up the classic French pont — the bridge day — on the Fridays after.

Alsace-Moselle: the extra days

The fiche publishes a separate 2027 table for Alsace-Moselle, which keeps additional legal holidays from its own local law — starting with Vendredi Saint (Good Friday, 26 March 2027), observed in communes with a Protestant temple or a mixed church. If you are settling in Strasbourg, Colmar, Metz or Mulhouse, read the Alsace-Moselle table rather than the general one.

Why the fiche beats a listicle

F2405 is the living page — it holds the current year and the next, updates when rules move, and sits inside the same service-public system that publishes every other right a resident in France relies on. Bookmark the fiche, not a blog's copy of it: the fiche also explains how férié days interact with work in the private sector, which is the half of the topic that listicles skip.

Common questions

How many public holidays does France have?

Eleven legal holidays apply nationally, with Alsace-Moselle observing additional days under its local law — Good Friday in certain communes among them.

Are workers paid on French public holidays?

The rules for work and pay on jours fériés in the private sector are covered on the same F2405 fiche — treatment varies by holiday and agreement, so read the fiche's work-rules section rather than assuming every férié is a paid day off.

What is a "pont"?

The bridge: when a holiday lands on a Tuesday or Thursday, many workplaces close the Monday or Friday between the holiday and the weekend. In 2027, Ascension (Thursday 6 May) and Armistice (Thursday 11 November) are the natural ponts.

Do prefectures and health offices close on these dates?

Yes — plan visa renewals, carte vitale errands and prefecture appointments around the 2027 table above, and remember the extra Alsace-Moselle dates in that region.
