Whoosh, Indonesia's high-speed train, for newcomers
By Covered Abroad Research Desk · Last verified July 2026
What Whoosh is
Whoosh is operated by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC). According to the operator, it travels at up to 350 km/h, taking you from Jakarta to Bandung, or back, in 45 minutes, with a headway of 20–30 minutes between trains.
Each train has three classes with a total capacity of 601 passengers, plus dedicated space for passengers with disabilities. KCIC calls Whoosh the first high-speed train in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia.
The four stations are Halim in Jakarta, Karawang, Padalarang and Tegalluar Summarecon on the Bandung side. KCIC also runs a feeder train connecting with Whoosh services — the departure time on your ticket is the Whoosh departure, and KCIC advises catching the feeder that matches it.

Booking tickets as a foreigner
You can book online through the Whoosh – Kereta Cepat app or the website ticket.kcic.co.id. To register, KCIC's steps ask for your country of origin and let you choose your document type — KTP or passport — so foreign residents and visitors can sign up with a passport. You'll verify by email and WhatsApp.
KCIC's booking windows:
- App and website — from 14 days ahead until 30 minutes before departure, paying by bank transfer, QRIS, e-wallet or credit card
- Station counters — from 14 days ahead until 15 minutes before departure, by cash, debit card, credit card or QRIS
- Ticket vending machines — until 30 minutes before departure, paying by QRIS
If you'll be commuting, KCIC sells the Frequent Whoosher Card, redeemable for Premium Economy tickets. For Jakarta–Bandung, the Gold card costs Rp 2,000,000 for 10 trips within 60 days, and the Silver card Rp 1,350,000 for 6 trips within 30 days.

Boarding — the ticket check before you're allowed onto the platform — opens 30 minutes before departure and closes 5 minutes before. You scan your app QR code or insert your physical ticket at the gate, and each passenger needs their own ticket. KCIC recommends arriving 30 minutes early: if you miss boarding, the ticket can't be refunded or used on a later train.
Changing your plans, according to KCIC:
- cancellations are possible up to 2 hours before departure, with a 25% fee
- changing to another train on the same date is free; changing to a different date carries a 25% fee
- tickets booked in the app or on the website are changed online; tickets from counters, machines or partners are changed at a station counter
- refunds are paid by bank transfer, within 15 days at the latest
For a newcomer in Jakarta, Whoosh puts Bandung within easy reach for a day trip or a weekend away — about 45 minutes from Halim.
